MyFeedList QuickStart
Myfeedlist is a free service which allows you to create you own blog portal. A blog portal is a page which displays the latest updates from a group of blogs. A Babe feedlist for example displays links to the latest blog posts of your favorite babe blogs. Here is a example:
http://show.myfeedlist.com/ (other and another one)
There are a lot benefits of having a feedlist:
- A surfer can see if one or more of their favorite blogs has been updated. Just like a feedreader, but this time you are in control of what the surfer sees.
- You as webmaster can accept RSS feed submissions from blogs and require a link back.
- Maintenance is low, you setup a feedlist and it will update automatically.
- A feedlist can contain much more than feeds, for example boxes with your advertisement.
- A feedlist can also link to pages, pages are normal html pages that display content that might be of interest to the surfer.
- Search engines will like feedlists because a feedlist is updated often and links to related content and even contains related content (your pages). And when you accept Feed submissions you will get a lot blogs that link to your feedlist.
- Exceptional targetted traffic, if you for example start a feedlist with only feeds from non-nude blogs you will only get surfers that want non-nude content on your feedlist. And when your feedlist gets more popular other webmasters with non-nude blogs want their feeds on your feedlist, you require a link (or recip) back and you will receive even more non-nude traffic.
- You feedlist can become a starting point for surfers in a specific niche.
- Even more, use your imagination!
Let's start a feedlist which will attract surfers who like teens.
- First create a acount. A email will be send to you containing the password you can use to login.
- Now your logged in. Choose a template, preferred:
Classic > Default. Press the Choose Template button. (more templates are on the way!)
- Lets change that difficult password. Click Password in the menu and enter your old password and two times the new password. After you have done that you will have to login again with the new password.
- Now we are going to add a couple feeds to your feedlist. Click Feeds in menu and click the "Retrieve Feeds from multiple blogs" link. Enter 10 urls of teen blogs that you want on your feedlist. If you don't have any teen blogs of your own then go to a blog directory (other) and pick some good looking blogs with good content that are updated regular. Once you have entered 10 teen blog url press the "Retrieve those feeds" button. The system will now try to find the RSS feeds of the blogs. Once it is finished press the "Continue to Import Feeds" button. A new page is displayed which allows you to import RSS feeds into your feedlist. There should be a couple urls to RSS feeds in the "Feeds to be imported" field. Press the "Start the Import" button. Now a new page appears which shows you how the system downloads the RSS feeds and imports the RSS items. Click the Continue link when it is finished. Now you should have a couple feeds in the list. You can repeat the previous steps if you want more feeds on your feedlist.
- When you click the Preview link in the top right corner you notice that your feedlist is empty. This is because you didn't yet move the feeds to a visible column. Click "Box move" in the menu and click the "Autofill" button at the bottom of the page, this will put all the available feeds and boxes in the visible columns. Click the Preview link in the top right corner again, your feedlist looks much better now.
- Your feedlist is still a bit empty with only text links to blog posts. Let's add a box. A box can contain anything, from a "welcome" text to a banner, from a sale text to a picture of the day. Click "Boxes" in the menu, click the "Add a new box" link and enter a title for the box, let's make a welcome box, so the title might be "Welcome". A new page appears which allows you to change the box. Enable the box and type a welcome message in the Content field, it may contain html. Press the Change button. Your welcome box is ready, but it isn't yet visible on your feedlist. Go to "Box move" in the menu to move the welcome box to one of the visible columns. Don't forget to press the Change button. Repeat the previous steps if you want more boxes with for example banners or sale texts or for other purposers.
- While being on the "Box move" page you might have noticed a box called "Links", this is the links box, it contains links (hence the name). You can change the links that appear in the box by click "Links" in the menu. Click "Add new link" link to add a new link. This process is fairly simple.
- If you want to give your surfers some extra content, you might want to create a page. A page can contain any kind of content and is not directly visible on your feedlist. You for example can make a page that allows other webmasters to submit RSS feeds. Another use for a page is extra content like thumbnails / pictures that point to sites / galleries of your sponsors, or maybe extra text & tips. A page can be anything just like a normal html page.
- Now we know what a page is lets create one. Click "Pages" in the menu and click "Add a new page" link and enter a title for your page. A new page appears which allows you to change the content of the page. Enable the page, type in a short name for the page in the "Short name" field, finally type in the contents of the page in the "HTML for page". Press the Change button and Preview your feedlist. As you can see a new link appeared at the top right of your feedlist that points to the newly created page.
- The look of your feedlist is fairly standard, nothing spectacular, not something that surfers might like. So lets make your feedlist look good. Click "Templates" in the menu, click the "Wizards" tab. This page allows you to change every aspect of your feedlist without messing with HTML codes, from html meta tags to your footer, from a image header to the link colors. There are a lot of options which might be a bit overwhelming first, but explore and just test a couple things and see how it effects your feedlist. It's very powerfull!
- If you think the "Wizards" tab is to limited then click the "HTML" tab and enable "Use the HTML template". Now you can change the whole html template of your feedlist to every pesky detail. The Template Tuturial gives you information on the tags and the structure.
- By default you feedlist is hosted on the fast servers at myfeedlist.com. You will get your own subdomain. If you don't like the idea of this or you want your own domainname then you can publish your feedlist on your own server. Click "Settings" in the menu, "FTP" tab and enter the required fields. "Feedlist URL" field must contain the url of your feedlist when it is published. "FTP path" must contain a valid path on your FTP server. "Feedlist filename" usually is "index.html". Press the Change button. Now click the "Publish to FTP" link in the top right corner (or in the menu). Enable the "FeedList" and "All pages" and click the "Start upload" button. A new page appears which shows you the status of the upload. Click the "Preview" link if the upload has finished, your feedlist looks quite ugly this is because you didn't yet upload the support files. Support files are images and style sheets that may be used by your feedlist. Click "Publish to FTP" in the menu and click the "Upload Support Files" button, now all the images and style sheets will be uploaded to your sever. You will only have to do this once, or if the support files change (which you will notice when your feedlist looks ugly again).
There are a lot more features that this tutorial didn't cover, that's why i advice everyone just to click anything and discover the new and powerfull features.
If you don't like the topbar advertisement you can choose a alternative. Click "Settings" in the menu and enable the option "Don't display topbar advertisement but display advertisement in a box at the top right of my feedlist.". This will remove the topbar and move the advertisement in a box at the top right (or top left) of your feedlist. This box will only be visible on your feedlist, not on the pages you make.
A FAQ is available. Post a message on the Support Forum if your question isn't in the FAQ.
